Fabrics for the garden by the metre
For many of us, the garden is a little piece of holiday in our own home. From spring to autumn, we enjoy many wonderful hours in the fresh air here. In addition to the right plants, seating and shady areas also play an important role.
From new upholstery fabrics for your garden furniture, fabrics for covering loungers and chairs to covers for the much-loved barbecue, there are many ways to use textiles in the garden in a functional and decorative way. Even a spot protected from the sun by parasols or awnings can be skilfully staged with the right fabric.
We have a large selection of garden furniture fabrics and awning fabrics. If you still can't find the right fabric, our fabric advice service will be happy to help you. We always endeavour to find the right fabric for you!
Important properties of outdoor fabrics for outdoor use
There are a few points to bear in mind to ensure that the textiles achieve the desired effect in the garden and fulfil their purpose in the long term. Of course, this varies slightly depending on the sewing project, but if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.
When covering garden chairs, for example, it is important to choose a synthetic fabric that allows water to run off easily and does not stagnate. This ensures that neither mould nor mildew stains have a chance. The fabrics should also be tear-resistant to form a robust seating surface. It also makes sense to use a flame-retardant fabric here so that sparks from the barbecue or a campfire cannot cause any serious damage.
From a material point of view, any fabric can be used for chair covers, as these are generally only taken outside when in use and are not exposed to rain. It makes sense to choose a fabric that is UV-resistant so that the colour does not fade due to UV radiation. The garden furniture fabric should also be abrasion-resistant in order to withstand the wear and tear.
A waterproof and breathable outdoor fabric should be chosen for outdoor cushions that are to be permanently placed on the garden bench. UV resistance is also recommended here.
For sun protection, it is also advantageous to choose a colour-fast fabric that does not fade in the sun. The fabric should be hard-wearing, weather-resistant and easy to clean. This is made possible, for example, by a water and dirt-repellent impregnation.
If you still need a cover for your garden lounge, outdoor kitchen or your children's toy box, you should look for a waterproof, water-repellent and breathable fabric. The fabric should also be able to withstand UV radiation.
